Essay Writing on MY LIKES AND DISLIKES

Jose John October 8, 2014 No Comments
MY LIKES AND DISLIKES I can’t pretend to be a great idealist or moralist. Thus I like a number of sources of enjoyment- Yes pictures are there. I would lie to enjoy programmes on TV and sometimes of radio too. But I would not like to sit at the idiot box all the time. There are good pictures; I have no liking for the pictures having too much display of sex and violence. There are some good serials and U.G.C programmes on the TV set. I like them. News on the TV is just reflection of His Master’s Voice –praise of government programmes. I have no liking for this propaganda of plans on paper only. They don’t recreate me. They bore me. I have a liking for poems written by great romantic poets like Keats, Shelley and Wordsworth. I have a liking for the modern couplets too. Materialism is all around us. So I want to be in a land of fancy with birds, rivers, seaside, the little babe, the blue sky, the green fields and the snow clad mountains. I wish to have their close company. As it is not always possible I take resort to the beautiful poems. I like to identify myself with many romantic characters...

ESSAY TOPICS : MY IDEAL TEACHER

Jose John October 7, 2014 No Comments
MY IDEAL TEACHER I live in a world if starvation. I have friends all around me-all beggars. They are starving in a world that is full of knowledge. But the toast of knowledge is not passed on to the hungry student. An ideal teacher would make the toast wholesome with latest innovations and place it on the plate of inquisitiveness of the students. The teacher of my fancy would not pass on morsels of stale knowledge to the students. He would rather offer something new-something fresh- something full of fragrance. Notes of different categories are now available in the market- the market of cheap second hand knowledge. If one chooses to have this stuff one can have it from the education hawker at the street corner. An ideal teacher won’t recommend this cheap stuff. He will also not dictate such cheap notes to the young students to cram and go through the examination. An ideal teacher has full faith in the intelligence of the young girls and boys. He would arouse their passion for knowledge and would satisfy it by explaining things. He would substantiate everything with a number of examples. He would let knowledge flow like a transparent stream. One has just to have a dip to be...

MY FAVOURITE NATIONAL HERO : Essay Topics

Jose John October 7, 2014 No Comments
MY FAVOURITE NATIONAL HERO Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Give me your blood. I shall give you freedom. No modern national leader would make such an offer. They just beg your votes and promise to give you some material gains. They can purchase your votes. But Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was the person who demanded the ultimate sacrifice of the people. He did not make any personal promises. His only aim was the freedom of the Motherland. He did not let people believe that there are any short cuts to independence. He did not offer any soft padding war. No personal or individual benefits. It was a national cause and the nation would secure the advantages as a whole. I love and rever this great soul for this basic frankness, and the lesson of renunciation he taught to the people. Born on 23 rd January, 1897 at Cuttack in Orissa Subhash graduated in 1915 from Presidency College, Calcutta. He accepted the challenge of his father, went to England, did graduation from Cambridge University and secured fourth position in the I.C.S Examination. But he refused to serve the British Government. He returned to India in1920 and associated himself with Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. He was an active participant in the freedom movement....

MY FAVOURITE BOOK : Essay Topics

Jose John October 7, 2014 No Comments
MY FAVOURITE BOOK My favourite book is Tagore’s Githanjali. The world is too much with us said Wordsworth. We actually ‘lay waste our power’ in earning and spending on favourite articles. Our books, our teachers all ask us to work hard to be successful in life. We are surrounded by materialism. I just want to remain away from this dirty world. Tagore’s Gitanjali gives me wings to fly away from this murky world to the land of imagination. It is not a frivolous fancy. The poems of Gitanjali elevate an ordinary man to be the spiritual level, even the common man can visualize god in his activities. The poems have a metaphysical approach. It removes the difference between man and God. Man is just a particle embodied in God and his creation. Gitanjali begins with the Hindu sense of reincarnation when Tagore says ‘this frail vessel thou emptiest, again and again, and fullest it ever with fresh life’. According to Hindu thought all the activities are guided by all pervading spirit of God. The poet just offers a bouquet of songs to the Creator. He longs to meet him through these songs. ‘I touch by the edge of the far spreading wing of my song the feet which I...

Essay Topics on MY AMBITION IN LIFE

Jose John October 7, 2014 No Comments
MY AMBITION IN LIFE ‘Man is a born sinner’ said the prophet. No wonder sins have dominated the world scene through ages. The concept of sin has changed from time to time and fro region to region. Jehads have been guided by religious fervor. Forcible conversations have been considered God’s work. Nations have been devastated in the name of the Almighty. Wars have been fought against the so called non believers killing millions of people who did not submit to and surrender before the will of the aggressor. Chili powder was spread on the wounds, and young boys found living graves in the masonry of building for not accepting the religion of the invader. What then sin is? It has been relegated to the realms of petty thefts, telling lies, having street bouts under intoxication and the like. It is in the nature of the rich and the strong to harass and exploit the poor and the weak. A rich USA would harass the poor nations; a strong Iraq would try to force a weak Kuwait to surrender her sovereignty. But these are big things. A humble and ordinary man like me can’t shape the destiny of nations. I may wish the defeat of the tyrant but can’t force...

AN ARTICLE ABOUT LESSONS FROM HISTORY

Jose John October 5, 2014 No Comments
LESSONS FROM HISTORY People have a very short memory. In the course of time they forget even those incidents that were most injurious to the society. That is why it is said that history repeats itself. A historian keeps a record of all the good and evil deeds of persons and groups in the society. We have to have lessons from it. History tells us how Britishers landed on the shores of India as businessmen and how they gradually became the rulers of the country. We should learn a lesson from it and should not allow the multinationals a free hand in the economy of the country. They may again have evil designs and dominate us politically too. If we do not learn this lesson our political fate is also doomed. We may become slaves of the foreigners again. India has to learn a great lesson from the prolonged history of partition in this country in 1946-47. Do we require a Jagmohan to remind us about the activities of the Muslim fundamentalist in Kashmir. It is just an extension of what happened during and before partition. The government as well as the people should learn a lesson from the history that tells us how the Muslims in1946 raised slogans...

Essay on NON CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY

Jose John September 12, 2014 No Comments
NON CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY Wood has been the most common source of energy since the advent of human beings on the earth. Population being thin everywhere it seemed on everlasting source. Increase in population meant occupation of land for residential houses. That is how forests started depleting and disappearing too. Ti was not simply a loss in the potential source of energy but created environmental problem too. Since 18th century coal started replacing wood and was known as black gold. But the scientists knew that as the industries grew and the population increased coal reserves may last only for a hundred or two hundred years. The discovery of petrol of course proved a boon. But as the late Shah of Iran put it the stocks may last only by the first quarter of the 21st century. Nuclear or atomic energy started replacing these conventional sources of energy after the Second World War. Number of plants increased in the developed countries to an extend that by the eighties of the 20th century this too was considered as conventional source of energy. It is based on the principle of fission of a heavy atom of uranium or allied metals like plutonium that releases unlimited energy. It has two limitations. The...

ESSAY WRITING : MOTHER IS THE BEST TEACHER

Jose John September 12, 2014 No Comments
MOTHER IS THE BEST TEACHER Child is just a monkey aping the ones close to it. It is through this imitation that the baby starts learning. The nearest to the babe is the mother. The child unconsciously copies all the good or bad triats of the mother. If the mother scolds others the child is apt to do the same. If the mother is kind and affectionate the child too acquires these qualities. A child totally depends upon the mother. She is its first teacher. The father and the school teacher are the latter entries. No mother would like her son or daughter turn rust or evil. She pays attention to its child to make it an ideal son or daughter according to her ability and capability. It has been seen that the son of an uncultured, illiterate mother remains uncultured, rough and careless throughout his life. There is a story that a dacoit was to be hanged for the murders he had committed. As his last wish he wanted to see his mother. The wish was fulfilled. When his mother embraced him he cut her nose. The jailor was astonished. But the dacoit said,” Sir this is the woman who instigated me to commit crimes by keeping all...

Short Essay on JOURNEY IN A CROWDED BUS

Jose John August 13, 2014 No Comments
JOURNEY IN A CROWDED BUS Here is your short essay on journey in a crowded bus or an essay on my bus journey. Read it and leave your comments on it. The bus stopped a little away from its regular stop. The whole crowd the passengers of the two buses rushed towards it. An earlier bus was cancelled. How to board the bus was a problem. There was no option but to use force. I used all the strength, pushing others back-all the abuses lashed at me- got in- very fortunate for the bus moved as soon as I managed a standing seat between the rows of sitting seats. Yes I’ll call it a standing seat for it was not possible to move even an inch from the space I was occupying. I tried to see out. None was left. All had managed to be in that black hole. Will you like to call the passengers men and women? No they were just jute bags filled with flesh and bones. Poor bags are loaded by others. These bags loaded themselves. Jute bags won’t mind if they are placed one upon the other. But these bags of skin grumbled. It was June. The atmosphere at the bus-stand was very hot....

Short Essay on INDIA OF MY DREAM

Jose John August 12, 2014 No Comments
INDIA OF MY DREAM “Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into Fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its Arms towards perfection ………………………………………………………………… Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake”. That was the dream of Tagore. It has been lost as the world has been rushing fast towards materialism; India of my dreams is an admixture of the virtues of the past and the realities of the present. I would not like the nation to do away with the valor of Rani Chenamma, Rani Laxmibai, Shivaji and Maharana Pratap. They represent the aggressive spirit of the people who fought against foreigners for centuries. But the foreigners ruled over the country for a long time. People became submissive. They lost their honor. It is to be revived. The people of India should have a confidence that they can stand on their own. They have not to depend on other countries for anything. The heroes and heroines of the past glorified the country with their bravery. The misguided leadership is throwing the country into the arms of multinational...

SHORT ESSAY ON GROUND WATER POLLUTION

Jose John August 12, 2014 No Comments
GROUND WATER POLLUTION If there are too many or too much salts in the underground water it may be brackish. One may not relish it. Still it may not be a health hazard. But of late it was found in Denmark that the infants, especially in rural agricultural areas suffered from methaemoglobinaenia. A research found that it was because of excess nitrates in the subsoil water. Further in vivo research revealed that transformation of nitrate and formation of nitroso compounds are responsible for stomach cancer. Further studies conducted by the agency for Environment Protection in Denmark revealed that the overall mean level of nitrate concentration in that country has trebled in the last 35 years or so. According to World Health organization even 10 p.p.m of nitrogen in the form of nitrates makes the water unfit for consumption by infants. With the results reasons too flew from Denmark to India. Though the Changes in ground water quality are still in a nascent stage the people in European Countries have become cautious about it. A study agricultural scientist of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) revealed that increased and indiscriminate use of nitrogenous chemical fertilizers has been the cause of the malady. In the region of coarse textured irrigated farm land the...

SHORT ESSAY ON IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS AND GAMES

Jose John August 6, 2014 No Comments
IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS AND GAMES Games and sports symbolize the youth of the nation. They keep the nation young as they keep the people young. A drowsy inactive nation seldom makes a mark anywhere in the world. The intellectual growth of a nation too depends upon its physical health. Olympics of course are the mirror of the joy derived from physical competition. How much physically fit we are and how much joy we derived from the games and sports have been reflected in the Olympics for the last so many years. India has cut a sorry figure. Besides building health of the nation games give a sense of cooperation to the people. We call it team spirit. Leaving Tennis and Badminton most of the games have a team of 6 to 11 members. In Football, Hockey, Volleyball, even in Kabaddi if the team members do not cooperate they lose the game. The best game is one in which the ball is passed from player to player. Victory is a combined affair not an individual one. That is why most of the people in India try to develop their own personality. The sense of cooperation lacks. The games inculcate in us a sense of sportsmanship. We enjoy the victory of...

Short Essay on My Favourite Games

Jose John August 6, 2014 No Comments
MY FAVOURITE GAMES (or) GAMES I LIKE THE MOST I had a fancy for some of the games played in developed countries and dreams of creating records in the international jamborees of Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic games. But the dream was smashed to pieces after the Sydney Olympics of 2000- the first in the new millennium. The fancy for cricket was already over by the match fixing scam. It is all the result of copying the West in all spheres. So that my imaginative faculty does not get blurred my mind came back to my homeland where the sum of civilization rose seven thousand years back. So far as our games are concerned we have an egalitarian approach. Our games, in the past, were played by the rich and the poor alike. The most common game played in all the states of our country is kabaddi or TuTu. It has different names in different areas. But I have seen it being played everywhere. I like it the most as it is based in the spirit of cooperation of the whole team. If the opponent comes to say kabaddi all the six members of the team catch hold of one another’s hand making a chain so that once caught the...

FUTURE OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA

Jose John August 6, 2014 No Comments
FUTURE OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA Since the split in Congress in1969 the socio- political conditions in the country have been undergoing a steep fall. There is an abundance of good social legislation as may not be found in any democratic country in the world. But the common man just wonders whether he is meant to be the show piece in the sphere of history. The implementation of laws is almost nil in most of the parts of the country. If they are honestly implemented by a conscientious officer he has to do so at the risk of his transfer. The Parliament and State assemblies enact laws and pass them on to the administration not for their execution but for their non- execution. Educational people feel that the legislation is very good but the execution is bad. The poor illiterate or even the literate common man does not know anything about the legislation. He has to face a government officer, a representative or an official of the executive machinery who is seldom helpful. Thus he too abuses the executive right from the Prime Minister to peon in the Taluqa office. It is a black spot on the reputation of the executive head of the State. The experience of the people...
