AN INDIAN FARMER The real India lives in villages. India is an agricultural country; most of her people are farmers. They live in villages near their farms. They have spacious compounds in which they tether their cattle and keep their carts. They cultivate land and grow different crops. Most of the farmers live below the poverty line. An Indian farmer leads a simple and hard life. He gets up with the crowing of the cock and goes to his fields with his oxen. He ploughs land, harrows it, lays out beds, sows seeds, water crops and reaps the harvest. The members of his family assist him in his work. He looks after the crop and saves them from being spoiled by strays cattle or wild animals. He enjoys no holiday. At noon he takes his meals under shady tree and then takes a little rest. AN INDIAN FARMER India is primarily an agricultural country: around 70% of our population lives in villages and farming is the main occupation of these people. An Indian farmer is thin, but strongly built. He works hard in the fields. A majority of Indian farmers still use the primitive methods of farming. Most of the farmers wear dhoti and khadi kurta with a turban on head. The farmers of india speak local dialects of the region they belong to. An Indian farmer wakes up early in the morning. He goes to his fields before the sun rises. He ploughs the field and sows seeds. He takes out carefully the harmful grass that grows with the young plants. He irrigates his crop and scares away the birds that may eat up the crop. He sprays insecticides from time to time. He reaps the crop and separates the grains.
