MY FAVOURITE BOOK Books are, no doubt, our best friends. They are food for thought. They console us in our sorrow and make us forget worries of life. I am very fond of books. I am a member of the Delhi Public Library as well as of my school’s library. Recently I read a very interesting book. It was the ‘Panch Tantra’ of Vishnu Dutt Sharma. It is written in five parts. Every part contains interesting stories about the animal world. In my opinion every one must read it. We do learn things not only directly but otherwise also when we read books. But, I was surprised to learn how different animals behave differently. They think, plan and act like man. I liked all the stories very much. The book has been translated into many languages. All the stories tell us how we can co-operate with each other and how can show unity when someone attacks us? This book teaches us moral ideals.
MY FAVOURITE BOOK My favourite book is Tagore’s Geetanjali. ‘The world is too much with us’ said Wordsworth. We actually ‘lay waste our power’ in earning and spending on frivolous articles. Our books, our teachers all ask us to work hard to be successful in life. We are surrounded by materialism. I just want to remain away from this dirty world. Tagore’s Geetanjali gives me wings to fly away from this murky world to the land of imagination. It is not a frivolous fancy. The poems of Geetanjali elevate an ordinary man to the spiritual level Even the common man can visualize God in his own activities. The poems have a metaphysical approach. It removes the difference between man and God. Man is just a particle embodied in God and his creation. Geetanjali begins with the Hindu sense of reincarnation when Tagore says ‘this frail vessel thou emptiest, again and again, and fittest it ever with fresh life‘. According to Hindu thought all the activities are guided by all pervading spirit of God. The poet just offers a bouquet of songs to the Creator. He longs to meet him through these songs. ‘I touch by the edge of the far spreading wing of my song thy feet which I... read more

MY FAVOURITE BOOK One of the striking and memorable books I read recently is ‘Hitler Paranja Sathyamgal’ by T.A. Mathews. I purchased the book from a bookstall in Kottayam. Though the book is classified as ‘Biography” it is not merely a book of biography. It is an earnest and realistic attempt of the writer to evaluate Hitler, the man of historical importance, with the resources supplied to him by the historical events that extend for centuries. Going ahead, we carry with us some beliefs and creeds, the authencity of which we never question or put to rethinking. If one dares to shed light to their uncladed form or question them with adequate evidence, at times one gets stunned. Hitler Paranja Sathyamgal’ is capable of creating such a feeling in a reader, no doubt. When the ancient British King Macbeth know for his greatness, was reproduced as the embodiment of all vices in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, we had the least hesitation to bail it out in the name of artist’s license. But when the author T.A. Mathews states with adequate evidence that Hitler, considered to be the incarnation of all the vices, is a man to be justified, the response of most of the readers will not be positive. The author... read more
MY FAVOURITE BOOK Of all the possessions in the world, books are the most valuable possession especially to those who are lover of books. Indeed books contain priceless treasure which friends cannot match, brothers cannot divide and the time cannot destroy. I have read a number of books, but the book which I like most is Pandit Nehru’s Autobiography. My favourite book is Pandit Nehru’s Autobiography. Its author is Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the great leader and freedom-fighter. He was the first Prime Minister of our country. I got a copy of the Autobiography as a present on my birthday last year. There were many other good presents but this book attracted me the most I remember how I sat up late that night reading the life history of our Prime Minister. The first sentence of the book gripped me. I cannot think of a more arresting beginning. How often I repeat to myself this memorable opening. An only son of prosperous parents is apt to be spoil especially so in India and when that son happens to have been an only child to escape the spoiling. The autobiography is highly interesting. I read it like a novel. Every line has the ring of sincerity. The book is... read more
MY FAVORITE BOOK I have a number of books. I have read them all. But the book I like most is the Pancha Tantra stories. It contains a number of stories. All of them are interesting stories. They were written long, long ago. A great wise man wrote them. His name was Vishnu Sharma. This story book was given to me as a present by my aunt. Each of these stories tells us a moral. Human nature is portrayed here through various animals. These stories are really wonderful. These are in narrative form. Damnak and sanjivak are the main character. Damnak is a jackal and Sanjivak is a bull. They are so amusing and interesting. I like to read and re-read them. Many of them I remember very well. I like to tell them to my friends and my younger sister. Though very old, the stories are quite fresh and true. These stories take me to the animal kingdom. And it is full of excitement. They keep my interest aroused. The animals in these stories present the human nature so nicely.
MY FAVOURITE BOOK I read a lot of books. Books are our best friends. They give us knowledge and wisdom. They stand in our joys and sorrows. Among the books that I have read, I like the Ramayana by Tulsidas as the best. It is my favourite book. It is a storehouse of vast knowledge and values. It is a book that has been read for generations. This book is very interesting and instructive. It is the story of Lord Ram. It relates the story how Ram conquered Ravan- the victory of good over evil. It teaches us that we should obey our parents. We should love our younger ones. We should have high moral character. We should never break our promise. Like Bharat, we should respect and love elder brother and we should not take away the right of an elder brother. Like Lakshman, we should be dutiful should have extreme love for each other. We should not be selfish like Kaikeyi. We should not believe in what other people say. For Indian women, Sita is the ‘ideal’. She is the dutiful wife of Ram. The Ramayan teaches us the duty is more important than life. Like Ravan, we should not be proud. It was his pride that... read more
