Formal education in Arts becomes popular. A degree would provide a job. It used to be a government job. It was something like a morsel thrown by the master. But as the vision widened people started thinking of something else too. Moreover the government could not provide jobs to all who had academic qualifications. Moreover parents in cities did not like their children coming back from school in dirty clothes. The ideal of learning handicrafts did not pick up. The educationalists fell back on the formal education.

With the rise in population academicians, parents, the government all were worried. They were impressed by the introduction of professional and technical courses in other countries especially in Japan and the U.S.A. The Japanese system required more labor and a strong national character. There has been no training about national character in India after Independence. So academicians looked to the American system. By 1985 vocational and professional courses were introduced in 9 states. But it was a half-hearted effort. The courses covered only 2.5 % of schools. The students were not given a thorough technical or professional knowledge. They did not secure any jobs and went for degree in arts. Thus it has been facing a slow death.

In India, for higher studies we have professional and vocational colleges like I.I.Ts, Engineering colleges, Medical colleges, Law colleges, Colleges in Business Management and other traits. For a diploma course too we have separate institutions or a lower department in vocational colleges. IITs provide certificate courses in many streams including shorthand and computer sciences.

If professional or technical education has to be a part of regular studied all the technical institutions should be assimilated with regular high schools and +2 classes. These institutions should have all the laboratories at least up to the standard of those in the IITs. They should have technical staff too. The whole system of education requires an overhauling. But it is not possible if the government spends only 2 per cent of its revenue on education. Let us pay more attention to look after the human factor to make the nation strong.

Bose became the President of the Azad Hind Government and the Commander of the army. His headquarter, now, was Andaman and Nicobar Island. The army consisted of 50,000 soldiers and 1,500 officers. It was stationed at Singapore. Later on Rangoon became the headquarter. On 18th March 1944 the army reached Kohima in Assam. But August 1945 saw Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacked with atom bombs. Japan surrendered. Azad Hind Army too had to surrender. But nothing is known of this great son of the Motherland. Some believe that he died in an air crash. Others believe him still alive. Whatever the truth may be. But he lives honorable in the hearts of millions and millions of people I India even today.

The muslin fundamentalists have given an ultimatum that they will not allow Hindus to go to Amarnath and Vaishnodevi, the sacred temples in Kashmir. It was June. The atmosphere at the bus-stand was very hot. But now all the passengers were adding to the heat inside. Even hell might have been cooler. I! No everyone was thirsty now. Water? It was not an A.C.compartment that water would be supplied. Yes you could have it when the bus stops. But why should it? It was an express-only two stops-one at a wayside restaurant providing free meals to the driver and the conductor. The other was near a silk emporium- a private one. No, no the driver has not to purchase anything. He has just to collect the usual halting charges. Almost all the passengers were out at the restaurant at least to have water, such a big crowd. I just thought of the djinn of the bottle. How could be enter the bottle. The whole crowd that even the hotel could have not accommodated entered the bus like the djinn in the bottle again.

The tunnel was over. But the bus stopped with a jerk. Bedding had rolled down the roof of the bus. A few passengers hustled out of the bus. The bedding was brought back and lifted up the roof.

At last the bus reached Mangalore. What a comfort it was to be out of that luggage carrier all perspiring- all cursing the transport system of the state. It was a big relief to be out of the black hole after three hours torture especially for the children and women.
