CORRUPTION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

Essay topics

Corruption is the most deadly social evil persisting in the Indian society at almost all bureaucratic, administrative and official levels. It forms a vicious cycle of darkness around the common man who does not hold any authority or power in the society. Corruption has hollowed our society so far and if not curbed, it shall take our country to all-time lows.Essay topics

Corruption is basically the use of immoral and unethical practices for selfish reasons. Corrupt people can go to any extent and sacrifice their principles to get their job done or for personal gains. Many officials have been caught deceiving people and asking for huge amounts of money for simple jobs. Many public servants who are supposed to serve the society often are responsible for insecurities among the masses. Corruption has even lead to hindrance in the growth and development of our society because many facilities and laws framed for our welfare are not implemented owing to high levels of corruption in our society. Corruption is seen as a direct reason of high rate of unemployment, illiteracy and poverty worldwide.  Lack of proper health facilities, dearth of basic amenities like electricity and communication services and ill maintenance of social and national infrastructure is largely because the funds diverted for these purposes are taken by corrupt officials. Many laws that have been framed are still on paper and have not been implemented successfully because of corruption. Corruption not just leads to shortage of services and goods, but also degraded quality of the services and commodities available to us. Many cases of adulteration in food products, cheap quality electrical devices have been reported and observed which is nothing but a result of corruption and dishonesty.

Corruption is a result of improper governance and inefficient administration in public and private organizations. There is a lack of transparency for the masses to view the functioning of these organizations. Despite the RTI act, corruption manages to creep into our society. Illiteracy among the masses enables the officials to cheat on them. High rates of corruption are due to poverty and desperation to get employed for many who agree to work for anything to earn a meager amount.

Corruption needs to be curbed before it damages our society. The need of the hour is that the highest officials should be honest and should supervise the functioning of the divisions below them. The masses should be made aware of their rights and they should take proper care to check the services provided to them. Dirty politics or dishonesty should be eliminated. A sincere effort is thus required to correct our society.

CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES

essay topics

essay topics

Textbooks define natural resources as the resources which exist naturally on earth. Forests, fuel reserves, soil, water; all these are categorized as natural resources. Natural resources are also called natural wealth or the gift of nature for the simple reason that humans and all other organisms depend on these natural resources directly or indirectly for their survival and existence.speech topics

Air and water are necessary for all living organisms and form the basic principle of existence of life on earth. Water is also required for various industrial and domestic needs of human beings which are increasing with the growing population. Soil or land is required for producing food and shelter by animals and plants.  Forests or trees are beneficial in many ways. From wood, to medicines, to paper, to almost every other essential commodity; trees provide us with all. Fuel reserves are required for almost all domestic and industrial purposes. Thus, we see that our existence is impossible without these natural resources.

What is of great concern is that due to the ever growing demands, humans are exploiting these natural resources ruthlessly which risks our existence. We are using these resources to such an extent for our demands which leads to exhausting of these resource reserves and consequent depletion of the quality. Thus earth shall soon reach the brink of irreparable damage. It leads to great environmental concerns like pollution, global warming and consequent effects like disturbance in water levels, critical damage to the earth. This creates the need to conserve the natural resources.essay writing topics

We can do that in a number of ways. Water needs to be conserved as the potable water levels have come down. We can limit the water use at domestic levels. We can recycle water and reuse it wherever possible. We should prevent pollution of water sources. Forests are being exploited ruthlessly. So we should prevent deforestation and find alternative measures for meeting all needs. Alternative resources like solar power, wind energy, synthesized materials etc. help us meet our demands in a sustainable way. Sustainable Development ensures meeting present human needs taking care of the environmental balance and future requirements. Nowadays, the concept of Green Technology is introduced to take care of advancement with natural preservation. Thus, all such measures can help us conserve the natural resources effectively.

My Unforgettable Teacher

Speech Topics on teachers day

essay writing topics on my unforgettable teacher

A child idolizes his teachers more than anyone else in his life. All of us have our own ideals in our lives. A teacher is like a God to the child. In Indian culture, a teacher is given utmost importance. That means a teacher must get the importance from the children after their parents. A Teacher not only teaches the students the lesson in the books but also act as a spiritual guide for his students.Speech Topics on teachers day

I study in Tagore Public school. There are about 30 teachers in our school. Some of them have taught me earlier. Some are teaching me this year and there are others who haven’t taught me still. Nevertheless, I know them all. I like all my teachers. They are very kind and loving. My favourite teacher is Mr. Sharma.

He is our Maths teacher. He is a middle-aged man with pleasing habits and good behaviour. He is intelligent and a master in his subject. He is very disciplined but not very strict to the students. We feel at ease when he is around. He makes Mathematics easy for all of us and all of us enjoy it.

He is very soft spoken, kind, gentle, helping and caring. He is always ready to listen patiently to the problems of the students. His admirable qualities make him a favourite of not only me but of all the students. He is our games’ incharge too. We all enjoy playing games under his supervision. He is very friendly to the students while practicing.

The reasons for liking him too much are many. Last year when I had fallen ill and could not go to school for many days, he himself came to my home. My parents and I too felt very happy. He then helped me to manage the loss of classes. He made me feel very special. He encouraged a lot me to study. And he cleared all my doubts about the lost portions. I owe a lot to him for my speedy recovery.

Since then, he has become a regular visitor to my family. But one thing I admire most is that he is neither partial nor biased. He is very honest and simple. Teachers like him are a fine example of simple living and high thinking. The country needs more devoted and dedicated teachers like him. Students would work harder when they have such inspiring much sources to follow.

The Influence of Television on youth

Essay topics

The influence of TV on the life of today’s youth is unbeatable. The variety of programs being telecast is it regional or international is mind boggling. Television is an extraordinary medium that brings the entire world into your living room. Its accessibility makes it more powerful-it is there at the touch of a button. It is a 24/7 medium. Its visual impact leaves a lasting impression on the young minds which are susceptible. TV is the windows to their world since magazines or cinema certainly do not exert the same impact as TV on them.Essay topics

The content of TV programs leaves a lot to be desired. Hence to expect it to instill moral, ethical or positive values is asking for too much. It is appalling to note that even gruesome scenes do not elicit much of a response from the young viewers whose mind seems to be attuned to it; having had an overdose of it. Their way of dressing, eating, conversing and even the music they listen to is largely influenced by the English serials and sitcoms and music channels they tend to watch.

Essay writing TopicsThere is an overdose of violence, sex and glorification of things that appeal to the youth. The content of violence can be influenced by the children and as well as the youth. And there is a tendency to imitate by both the youth and children, what they have seen in the cinemas. And they must try to do in real in some situations of life from the false knowledge by cinemas. And there should be a tendency to grow the intrusion in the society also a problem. The effect of serials made the youth to become addicted to the TV. And the overdoses of the sex in some channels like fashion channels must affect badly in the youth. At times it is also due to a false sense of moving ahead with the times that makes them follow this culture.

Sports and news programs however do not corrupt the mind. But too much of sports is definitely harmful. TV viewing in excess making many among the youth of today into couch potatoes.

Parent restrictions on TV viewing by children have brought out little outcome as anything on which sometime some kind of strict control is imposed is liable to set in a negative impact. It is the responsibility of the grown up in the household to generate a sense of discretion in TV viewing to be selective in watching programs brought out by various channel operators.

Dowry System in India

Speech Topics on Dowry system

In olden days giving away dowry during marriages was very common. The aristocratic class celebrated their daughters’ marriages in pomp offering by land, jewellery, properties, vehicles and large sums of money to the bridegroom. In these days too the rich in several communities celebrate their daughters’ marriages in a very grand fashion. The Maharajas celebrated the marriages of their daughters by spending lavishly. Ordinary people wonder at the huge amount spent on marriages and the grand feast for thousands and thousands which include the choicest food items and choicest liquor.Speech topics in dowry system

Wealthy people, Zamindars and princely class can afford to spend on marriages as much as they wish. Unmindful spending in marriages is questionable when most of our people struggle to make both ends meet.Speech Topics on Dowry system

To the common man, giving dowry is very problematic. Some of the people in the society are employed in offices or do some petty business. In many families the earning member may be only one. He may get a meager salary and he may not have any savings. He may not have any close relative to help him in needy circumstances. He may have to marry off daughter when he is about to retire or after he retires. His retirement benefits may amount to a few lakhs of rupees. If he spends most of the money on the marriage of his one or two daughters how can be lead a comfortable life in the rest of his life? This is the condition for most of the families. Having spent most of the money a person gets on retirement he suffers during his last days. This situation is very pathetic. Unless he gives a sizeable amount as dowry and spends a large portion of his earning on his daughter’s marriage he cannot get his daughter married. Even an educated girl who earns well has to be given off in marriage with dowry. Unless the bridegroom’s parents are determined enough not to seek dowry this social evil cannot be abolished.

The married girl is often harassed if the dowry demanded is not given in full. She is ill-treated, abused and she suffers a lot. If her husband is not understanding enough her condition is pitiable and she silently suffers the torture. Even the educated, enlightened in-laws sometimes ill-treat a married girl. This is however the age of feminism. Gender equation is a vital message of our day. The constitution declares that “it is the fundamental duty of all citizens to renounce practices derogatory of women”.

Giving dowry to a girl during a marriage is nothing but underestimating her value. Marriage has sanctity. Marriage is a spiritual bond. Let us give marriage the high status which it rightly deserves.

Value of Discipline

essay writing Topics

“There is not to make reply,

  Theirs not  to reason why,

Theirs but to do and die”

These famous lines by Lord Alfred Tennyson, emphasizes the place of discipline in the army and during times of war. It is obvious that no army can function and no battle can be fought successfully if every soldier wants to know the reasons behind his superior’s orders or if he argues with him about the necessity of his order.essay writing Topics

Discipline is necessary not only in the army but also in every organization, in every walk of life, in every activity. In order to understand what discipline is. For any walk that is to be done, an individual must have before him a goal, and a purpose. The goal can best be achieved if the work is done in the most efficient way with complete concentration. One has to devote his time, energy, resources to the activity. Strict obedience to the required rules for any work or activity is called discipline.

Since adults are supposed to have some self-control, they can on their own, obey the necessary rules of work or activity. Hence discipline comes to them automatically. It is internal. But children are not in a position to understand the necessity of obeying certain rules, or even if they do understand, they may be swayed by immediate or unimportant interests or diversions. So discipline has to be included in them. It is external. Children must accept the authority of their parents and teachers and obey their orders or instructions seriously.Essay topics paragraph writing on discipline

Discipline, whether it is internal or external, requires a great deal of self-control. But it never restricts or reduces one’s freedom. On the contrary, it makes freedom all the more meaningful and creates the necessary conditions in which freedom can be exercised or enjoyed. Discipline is like the banks of the river which do not obstruct the flow of its water but make it possible for the river to flow smoothly with proper force in the desired direction. Similarly, discipline makes it possible for the individual to utilize his time, energy and resources in a better way to achieve the desired results.

Discipline makes all the difference between success and failure, progress and stagnation. Discipline is the very foundation on which success in any activity or work is based. The great writer Edmund Spencer has said, ” A stern discipline pervades all nature, which is a little cruel that it may be very kind.”

Nowadays, a very popular means of social interaction and propagation that has emerged along with the print media is the rise of Electronic media. The birth of electronic media took place with the invention of radio when single voice miles away thrilled millions across the continents who marveled at this miraculous hearing of a voice. People wondered and were over-joyed with this great invention. It was the beginning of an entirely new era. Television now has invaded not only every home, but every sphere of life, in fact, in some way or other television now-a-days dictates our life. It has invaded and cut short our social life. People preferred to watch television instead of visiting people or socializing. It has severed all homely conversations.

speech topics on media

But blaming television for all this solely would be an utter foolishness. Such things happen when human beings are enslaved by technology, when they let such things guide their lives and master them. If used judiciously, the electronic media can prove to be very useful educationally as well as socially, politically and economically. TV can in fact, be used as a powerful medium to spread social awareness among the illiterate masses against various social evils. Discussions on various topics can help the educated masses increase their intellectual abilities and widen their horizons. The various news channels keep the vigilant citizens updated. Channels like Discovery and National Geographic keep the inquisitive mind busy and satisfy every intellectual query of a mind. Alone with these are endless number of entertainment channels is solely there amuse and tickle the audience. Now even a number of kid’s channels have come to cater to this special section of the society.

Internet is another electronic media which is fast growing and extremely popular. And internet can help popularize technology internationalize and universalize our outlook. Importance of Self Reliance

Essay Topics on Self reliance

Self-reliance means developing the right skills and capabilities to do one’s activities without depending on outside support. Its essence is not to wait for the opportunity to knock at one’s door but to create opportunities for oneself by doing hard work and acquiring the qualities that are necessary to move ahead in life.Essay Topics on Self reliance

People who practice self-reliance are truly the masters of their own destiny. They never blame fate, unfit circumstances or find fault with the systems or the society. They make use of their own tools and use them with great skill and concentration, focusing mainly on their goal. Their success, achievement and creation bear the stamp of their personality. They are original in their ideas, innovative in their approach and become the torch-bearers of prosperity. They are always to achieve their objectives because they are resolute, single-minded and self-disciplined. They know their relative strengths and weaknesses and use up their energies in such a way that their weaknesses are not exposed to others. They execute their plans themselves and operate on their own modes.essay writing topics

Self-reliance is the shortest possible route to success. Lord Buddha once said. “You are both the friend and the enemy of yourself. The heaven and the hell lie within you. It is up to you to choose. You are your own lamp, guide and staff. Never depend on others. Be the maker of your destiny. Help yourself and the world will help you. These lines remind us of the time-tested adage, “God helps those who helps themselves”. The Almighty has given every human being two hands to work and a mind to distinguish between good and bad. Why should any one then try to walk on somebody else’s crutches?Speech Topics Essay Writing Topics

It has also been found that those who develop the habit of depending on others lose their capabilities of doing even the smallest of things. This happens because their body become lethargic, their mind lazy and their muscles requiring rest all the time. Such people desire someone at their beck and call all the time to fetch or carry something for them. They get so used to asking for help for everything that they lose their confidence and are afraid of trying to do something themselves. They are not liked by anyone because they irritate others by asking for favours and needs for all the time. There is a direct relationship between self-reliance and success. Observing the way working of highly successful people shows us that they imbibed the habit of being self reliant at an early age.

Self-reliance is not and easy thing to gain. It needs some amount of great sacrifice. A great sense of discipline to follow the given or set schedule to perform those activities that demand much attention. Parents and other elders in the family, and teachers play a vital role in making children self-reliant. Self- reliance take a lot of dedicated hard worked and purposeful endeavour.

Global Warming : Cause and Effects

essay writing topics

Global warming is the greatest challenge facing our planet. It is in fact the increase in the temperature of the earth’s neon-surface air. It is the one of the most current and widely discussed phenomena. It has far reaching impact on bio-diversity and climatic conditions of the planet. Several recent trends demonstrate that global warming is directly its exercising impact on sea levels, melting of ice caps and worldwide climate changes. In short global warming represents a fundamental threat to all living things on earth.essay writing topics

Average global temperature rose considerably during the past century. The prevailing scientific view is that most of the temperature increase since mid-20th century has been caused by increases in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations produced by human activity. Most scientists agree that the planet’s temperature has risen 0.5 degree Celsius  since 1900 was the hottest year in the last century. Together with 1991, the years of 1983,1987,1988 and 1989 have been measured to be the warmest 6 years in the last one hundred years. The year 1991 was the second warmest year of the past century. The consequences of the rise in temperature is being felt all over the globe. The findings of scientific research done in this field reveal that the temperature of the earth is likely to rise from 1.4 degree Celsius to 5.8 degree Celsius within a period of hundred years. Unfortunately ,the imbalance which we have created between our life and earth is already showing the signs of disaster in the form of floods, cyclones, landslides, tsunami, drought, etc. if the imbalance continues to rise it would definitely lead to grave repercussions.

Carbon dioxide which is an important constituent of the environment is causing a warming effect on the earth’s surface. It increases the evaporation of water into the atmosphere. Since water vapour itself is a greenhouse gas. This cause still more warming. The warming causes more water vapour to be evaporated. The Carbon dioxide level is expected to rise in future due to ongoing burning of fossil fuels and land use change. The rate of rise will depend largely on certain economic, sociological, technological and natural developments. Other gases such as methane, CFCs, nitrous oxide, troposphere ozone are also responsible for global warming. Increases in all these gases are due to explosive population growth, increased industrial expansion, technological advancement, deforestation, growing urbanization etc.

Essay Topics

Global warming is great threat to flora and fauna of the earth. A large number of species may become extinct. The expanse of desert would increase. Low rainfall and rising temperature would add to the intensity and frequency of dust storms. This in turn will immensely affect the quality of agricultural land, ultimately causing adverse effect on agricultural produce. It would have far-reaching socio-economic impact also.

Forestation can be of great help for the reduction of global warming. Planting more trees and reducing timber cuts worldwide will help restore the imbalance to a great extent. And  we must follow the environmental policy of “reduce, reuse, recycle”, ie, promoting the reuse of anything. The use of fuel-efficient vehicles should be promoted. And every individual should be aware of the importance of protecting the environment. Besides eco-friendly technologies must be promoted.

Dancing is an exercise, provided that the pace is fast, climbing upstairs is another way to reduce or to come back to the earlier level of fitness, but overdoing it can cause your knees to pain.Speech Topics on Exercises

Exercise must be combined with a proper diet. Regular exercise , is not a license to unhealthy eating habits. At times one does indulge in a binge but it should be once in a while only. One’s diet should be well packaged with proteins, carbohydrates as well as minerals. Yoga has become a fancy to stay fit these days. It has a rich and famous clientele outside of India, and now, thanks to various TV channels, it is becoming quite popular in the country of its origin. Better late than never. Exercise is for fitness, it is not in an order to create an appetite.

We eat in order that we live, we do not live to eat. Fast food is the single biggest cause for making people unhealthy or unfit. AIDS – Cause and Effects

Essay topics

Acquired Immuno Deficiency syndrome, popularly known by its abbreviation AIDS is a fatal disease as it attacks and destroys the immune system of the body. It is caused by a virus called Human Immuno Deficiency virus or HIV. This virus is even invisible to microscope and can remain in the body for years together without showing any visible symptoms. AIDS is the last stage of infection of the virus. It takes at least 10 years of period between getting infected with HIV and reaching the stage of developing AIDS. The first ever case of a person with AIDS was detected in America in 1959 which later emerged as a dreadfully widespread disease  in the 1980s. In India, it was reported in 1986.

HIV is a fast spreading disease in the world which if-not controlled can take epidemic proportions. As per the reports of Indian Health Organization(IHO), women and children are found to be more prone to the disease. The highest number of AIDS cases are found in Mumbai in India which is known as the AIDS capital of the country. A number of HIV cases are reported in recent years.

Essay topics

As per the common myth, HIV infection is not contagious as is measles or chicken pox. The infection mainly spreads through a sexual route or blood to blood contact. HIV spreads mainly through a sexual relationship, whether heterosexual or homosexual with an infected partner, transfusion of HIV infected blood products, use of infected syringes or needles ans is passed on by an infected mother to her unborn child. It is therefore, foolish to believe that HIV spreads through mosquitoes, touching or shaking hands, coughing, or eating from the same plates, or attending similar schools or working together.

AIDS in reality caused by a slow and gradual process. Medically, four stages have been in its long process. The initial HIV infection may show general symptoms like fever, body ache or head ache and then lie dormant for years together without showing any further signs. The infection can be passed on through next, a person may develop enlarged glands in the neck or armpits without any pain or other symptoms. Other symptoms can be fatigue, weight loss, chronic diarrhea, prolonged fever, cough, night sweats etc. Gradually the virus damages the immune system. The last stage of the disease takes at least 10 years to culminate into a fully blown AIDS. By this time, the patient’s immune system is totally destroyed and the person gets infected by various. This stage is easily recognized and a man survives only for about 3-4 years after entering this stage.

Two tests are carried out in order to confirm HIV infection- ELISA and Western Blot. Elisa is simple and the results can be known within a few hours but Western Blot is difficult, expensive and time consuming.

Awareness about the disease, its causes and treatment should be created among the masses. Schools and colleges can act as very effective medium of creating awareness among the youth. These youth in turn can be instrumental in spreading awareness among the other sections of the society. HIV patients need to be cared with compassion and be allowed to live and die with dignity.
