ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY
This is an apt proverb for those who hope for instant success. But it is true that a great achievement always requires persistent effort and planning. The statement is meant to emphasize that no achievement worth the name can be attained overnight. Rome was the capital of the ancient Roman Empire. It was a big city with many facilities. Several hundreds of people had to work hard for a long time to make Rome a reality. It took centuries and ages to build great nations, empires and civilizations. Every great achievement can be acquired only very slowly. A civilization, a society, a culture, art and architecture take even centuries to develop and reach perfection. It also requires imagination, firmness of purpose and hard labour to reach perfection. Great patience and perseverance are required for every great enterprise. We cannot reach the highest rung of the ladder without first having to climb the lowermost. No great scholar, author, soldier, scientist or statesman has ever achieved fame, name and perfection overnight. Even in nature, we find a slow and long-drawn-out process of evolution. Huge buildings, masterpieces of art and architecture- the Pyramids of Egypt and monuments like the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China were not built in a day. To cite an example of the present day is the long time of sudden flights”. It always took patience, time and possessed to overcome any difficult task successfully. Confidence and determination will also help.
