A HISTORICAL BUILDING- THE TAJ

The Taj is well-known as Seven Wonders of the World. It is situated on the bank of river Yamuna in Agra. It is well famous historical building of our country. A large number of foreigners come to see it daily.

This year on 10 May, 1999, I got a chance to go to Agra to attend a marriage ceremony. I left Nagpur by the evening train and reached Agra in the morning. I took part in the marriage procession and enjoyed delicious dinner at Agra.

Next day my friend and I set a plan for seeing the Taj. We reached the Taj by auto within half hour. We entered the main gate; there we enjoyed the beautiful fountains and the cistern. The scene of cistern was very charming. The small fishes of different colours were looking very beautiful swimming. The cypress tree from the main gate to the tomb looked like angels.

Then we reached the main building of the Taj. It is on the right bank of river Yamuna. The river was looking very charming flowing on the back of the Taj. The whole scene was very attractive. Inside the Taj we saw two graves. They beautifully decorated with precious stones. O the grave of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan there were lines engraved from the holy Quran. The Taj is made of white marble. It was built by Shah Jahan, Moughal emperor, in the memory of his lovely queen Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan loved her very much. It looks more beautiful in the moonlight at night. A large number of foreigners come to see it daily. Indeed it is worth seeing.

We saw it also in moonlight. It looks white like silver. In my opinion it is the most beautiful building in the world. It is place of art. It is a model of Indian workmanship. It is the glory of Mughal period. Our country is proud of it.
