Friendship is an indivisible trust. It is a very delicate thing. It is like “a china cup – once broken can be mended but the crack is always there”. It is a wise saying that a ‘friend of need is a friend indeed’. Those who escape at the time of need are false friends and cheaters. A sincere and true friend always stands by us through thick and thin. It is very difficult to find a true friend. One comes across numerous ‘fair weather friends’ but it is very difficult to get a true and sincere friend. We all know the story of the ‘Two Friends and the Bear’. The selfish friend climbed a tree leaving behind his friend who did not know how to climb a tree. He had to lie down motionless to save himself. When the bear went away the selfish friend came to him and asked what the bear had said to him. The other friend told him that the bear had said ‘beware of the selfish friend’. Hearing this the selfish friend felt humiliated and ran away. There is a saying ‘make friends, not enemy’. However, it is better to have few but sincere friends instead of having numerous ‘fair weather friends’. A true friend is ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of friendship. One should, therefore, be on the lookout of a true friend and should avoid fair weather friends.
