REPUBLIC DAY: Short Essay

REPUBLIC DAY

Republic Day is celebrated on the 26th of January every year. On this day in 1950, India became a Republic and the Constitution of India came into force. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the first President of the Indian Republic. A Government of the people, by the people and for the people came into power.

A great parade is arranged at India Gate in Delhi to celebrate this day. Everything is well planned weeks before and rehearsals are done for many days.

In the parade, military men march with great dignity. Army vehicle guns, bombs and other newly acquired ammunitions and weapons are exhibited. The procession of the various units of army, navy and air force is also taken out It is followed by contingents from schools and colleges N.C.C., Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. During the parade, aeroplanes fly above the people showering flowers.

The programme takes more than two hours. The procession comes to an end at the Red Fort. At night the India Gate is brilliantly lighted up. It is a day of great joy and delight to everybody, young and old.
