Last winter an international fair was held at PragatiMaidan. It attracted huge crowds. Almost all the states of the Union and many foreign countries setup their pavilions. Prominent among foreigners were: Japan, Russia, West Germany, Sweden, France, Great Britain and the U.S.A. All the pavilions were tastefully decorated. Different countries displayed their products. The goods displayed included heavy machines, models of rockets and atomic reactors, etc. The US pavilion was the largest, displaying atomic reactor among other things.

Next to the U.S.A. pavilion was the pavilion of Great Britain which presented agricultural and industrial machinery Japan put up electronic goods including a giant robot and computers. Some of the devices were truly amazing. West Germany displayed heavy machines in the field of printing and mining. Sweden presented machines and implements used for deep sea fishing.

India had also put up quite an attractive show. H.M.T. factory, Bangalore, Bharat Heavy Electricals and steel plants displayed their products, showing rapid industrial progress of the country under the public sector. In the private sector, many well-known companies like Panasonic, Tata, BPL, Telco, Philips, LG, Kirloskar Electricals, Godrej, etc setup their stalls in most impressive manner. There were also on show handicrafts, readymade garments, sport goods, plastic toys, etc. Entertainments like film shows, puppet shows, music conferences, merry-go-rounds were great attractions for children. I learnt many new things there and enjoyed myself.
